The JRC launched in September 2026 JRC Labs as a Service, a new initiative giving European industry access to selected JRC research infrastructures and expertise.

Access to specialised research infrastructure can be an important barrier for businesses seeking to develop, test and bring new technologies to market. The programme aims to help businesses overcome this barrier by providing access to unique JRC capabilities.

The first user access projects are expected to start in January 2027.

Who can benefit?

The service is open to startups, scaleups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and larger companies established in the European Union.

By making specialised research capabilities more accessible, the JRC aims to support businesses in advancing technological development, accelerating innovation, and bringing new solutions closer to market.

JRC Labs as a Service gives startups, scaleups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and larger companies access to a portfolio of JRC research infrastructures and complementary support services. Users can access JRC facilities to

  • test and validate technologies, materials and products
  • address specific technical or measurement challenges
  • generate data and evidence to support further development
  • accelerate the transition from development to market deployment

JRC Labs as a Service is a paid access service. Unlike public research projects, where access to JRC research infrastructures may be provided at no cost, users will pay the full cost of their access.

This approach ensures that this programme complements, rather than competes with, commercial services. It also means that user institutions retain full ownership of the intellectual property and deliverables resulting from their access project.

Access is limited to institutions established in EU Member States. Organisations from Associated Countries are not eligible under this programme.
