BI-REX is one of the 8 Italian Competence Centers funded by the Italian Ministry of Industry and Made in Italy. Born in 2018, it currently gathers in partnership 63 players among Universities, Research Centers and Companies of excellence with the aim to assist companies, in particular SMEs, through a varied series of services: from consultancy to technology assessment, from design to validation of innovative solutions, from orientation to training, up to the Pilot Plant. The BI-REX Pilot Plant is an advanced production line, where new Industry 4.0 technologies are integrated with traditional ones, in a digitally interconnected environment. The main thematic areas are: additive manufacturing, Robotics, IoT and Big Data, Robotics, extended reality, digital twin. The plant comprises a local datacenter with hybrid cloud composed of multi-node servers and it is covered by 5G connectivity, with a dedicated antenna (27Ghz Not-stand alone private network). It features the implementation of advanced robotics, integration of mobile and collaborative robots for assembly tasks, logistics and warehousing, production line feeding and flexible automation. The plant features diverse additive manufacturing machines (both metal and polymers) connected via Industrial IoT and all the process parameters are stored to perform Machine learning optimization.
