Structured Glossary and mapping framework
The main goal of the 'digital mapping framework' is to have a solid approach for describing and analysing what is present on the market in terms of technologies that support the deployment of digital manufacturing platforms.
The mapping framework should address questions such as:
- Which technologies and approaches are supporting the deployment of integrated digital manufacturing platforms?
- What are the services that they deliver?
- What are the standards that support these platforms?
The mapping framework has developed into a comprehensive structured list, which also lays the foundation of a 'structured glossary'.
The ConnectedFactories project uses this mapping framework or structured glossary for characterising available solutions and approaches that are on the market or on their way to the market. The same framework is being applied in order to collect and share information about R&D projects. In addition, if it is possible to use such a structure for supporting the identification and structured description of challenges as well as the development of scenarios, there will be a coherent approach throughout the whole ConnectedFactories project.
What is the benefit of using the reference structure or 'mapping framework' for collecting the information?
- The application of the mapping framework will allow us to analyse specific aspects (coverage of life-cycle stages, applied technologies, standards, security approaches etc.) much more systematically. The information is collected through the EFFRA Innovation Portal, which will make the analysis and the extraction of information for analysis and dissemination purposes much easier
- With respect to the mapping of research and innovation projects, the mapping will bring to the surface the commonalities, overlaps and difference in the approaches of these projects. It will enable the projects to take into account what other projects are doing are even cooperate across projects.
Existing structures or frameworks served as a baseline for this reference structure, for example the RAMI 4.0 Reference Architecture Model Industrie 4.0 or work done by other FoF related projects, European and regional initiatives.
