EFFRA Welcomes Danish Presidency Programme

BRUSSELS, 6 January – EFFRA has welcomed the ‘Presidency Programme’ published by the new Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The programme shows a clear recognition of the importance of industry to competitiveness in the European Union and recognises the importance of the Horizon 2020 framework programme proposal of the European Commission, negotiations for which will take place under the Danish presidency by making this a priority.

Echoing EFFRA’s continued drive to generate a greater involvement of industry through PPPs in EU research policy, the programme places an emphasis on ensuring that there will be more flexibility and simplification in Horizon 2020 in order to ensure an active involvement of industry.

'Factories of the Future' Will Continue Under 'Horizon 2020'

BRUSSELS - 30 November, The European Commission has published its proposal for Horizon 2020 the new framework programme that will replace framework programme seven (FP-7). The 600 page document presents in detail, the Commission’s plans for its support of European research, development and innovation for the period 2014 to 2020.

Reflecting its success under FP-7, the ‘Factories of the Future’ public-private partnership (PPP) will continue under Horizon 2020. The public-private partnership model has been recognised as a successful implementation mechanism and will now have legal status. It is expected that more PPPs will be created in the near future.

"An Example of Effective Cooperation" - Commissioner Geoghegan-Quinn

DUBLIN - 24 November. European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn has today (24 November) delivered a strong endorsement of the ‘Factories of the Future’ Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Speaking at the Irish trade union SIPTU conference ‘Innovation in Manufacturing – A Driver for Jobs and Growth’, the Commissioner stated that the “Factories of the Future’ PPP is “an excellent example of effective co-operation between industry and the public sector"
