Strategic Objectives
EFFRA’s key objective is to promote pre-competitive research on production technologies within the European Research Area by engaging in a public-private partnership with the European Union entitled 'Factories of the Future'.
The partnership aims to bring together private and public resources to create an industry-led programme in research and innovation with the aim of launching hundreds of market-oriented cross-border projects throughout the European Union. Such projects will produce demonstrators and models to be applied in a wide range of manufacturing sectors.
The partnership aims to respond to the specific needs of small- and medium-sized companies and create a mechanism for disseminating the knowledge and expertise generated through this type of Europe-wide cooperation while maintaining the legitimate interests of the original innovators.
Research investments need to be managed in a way such that the principles of openness, efficiency and accountability are upheld while at the same time removing the potential for discrimination and conflict of interest. EFFRA wishes to conclude a contractual partnership with the European Union so as to clarify the division of labour between the public and the private partners and to increase transparency of the initiative.
EFFRA was set up following a decision taken by the High-Level Group of the European Technology Platform MANUFUTURE on 11 March 2009 to develop and apply manufacturing technologies in Europe.
